Minutes October 14, 2008 Meeting

The Newbury Energy Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday, October 14 at the Baldwin Memorial Library beginning at 6:10 pm.  Attending were:  Linda Ide, Delbert Leete, Garnett Hebb, Royce Thompson, Liane Allen, and Peggy Hewes

 

Following introductions, Linda gave a brief background of the formation of the committee, distributed a packet of information, and reviewed the guidelines provided by the Selectboard.  Everyone present agreed by consensus to use Roberts Rules for Small Boards for conducting meetings.

 

As moved by L. Allen and seconded by R. Thompson, the committee unanimously agreed to ask the Selectboard to change the designated membership from 9 to 7.

 

As moved by L. Allen and seconded by G. Hebb, the following slate of officers was unanimously elected:  Chair – Linda Ide, Secretary – Peggy Hewes.

 

The committee then reviewed the hand-out from Sustainable Energy Resource Group (SERG) outlining what other town energy committees are doing.  The purpose of and ideas for the Newbury Energy Committee were briefly discussed.  Garnett recommended beginning with individual and residential energy conservation efforts.  Questions also arose re: Wells River Village street lights – who owns them, who pays for the electricity, and are there any appropriate conservation measures.  Peggy will contact the Village Trustees for additional information.
